Over the years visitors to our forums had contributed many maps of Siyi and the surrounding regionals. The biggest contributor, however, is Henry Tom, one of our moderators. The forums currently is unsearchable which makes referencing next to impossible and leads to much duplicated postings of the same maps.

In these pages we’ll harness the power of WordPress to enable our visitors to search for the map that is helpful in their genealogy research.

My mum is a Sangkai Hakka. Her ancestors migrated to Malaysia from Guangxi (China). Can I know where is this place “Sangkai”. I think Sangkai is a Hakka word, can I know what is the actual name in Mandarin?

Your Sangkai is most likely Cenxi/Sahm Kai (岑溪) which is located in eastern Guangxi (廣西) just south of Wuzhou/Ngh Jau (梧州) at the border with Guangdong Province (廣東省).

We have identified four villages in the Taishan region where family members lived. We are hoping for asistance in locating them. Any specifics would help such as (1) directions, (2) nearest major towns/cities, (3) a map, or(4) lat/long so we can use Google Earth to find the villages. If names changed, it would be good to know the new names.

The villages are:

Dong Chao — Fathers village. We think it is near Doushan. We are told the original name was Dong Chiu Chuen but we cannot validate this information.

Ung Chew — This is our Grandfather’s village. We found the name written in some documents from 1904, so the village name could have changed. We know it is in the Taishan area and suspect it could be near Kaiping.

Tung Leung — This is our Grandmother’s village. We suspect it is near Kaiping. Ung Chew and Tung Leung could be near each other. Again, name was found in some old documents, so the name could have changed.

Jin How Market — Our Grandfather worked in this village for a couple of years.

Hello: I need some help translating the address above.
I think it is: Guangdong, Taishan, Sanba, and Chong yun. The last part I can’t figure out. it suppose to be the street name?

Some of my friends said this is not useful ( the street name) when translated but I am curious about other opinions.

Sorry for my late response – I had to replace my desktop computer unexpectedly and I had to reload lots of applications and recover my hard drives.

I searched and could not find any places according to the Chinese characters that Woodson suggested. There are many Chinese characters for the romanization “Guangdong San, Lam Hoi Yuen, Fuk San Jun” you provided.

Assuming that this is a Cantonese romanization – some of our Cantonese literate Forum members need to taks a look at the maps below to see if they can identify a place that is similar in pronunciation to the romanization you provided.

Can anyone help me identify the two villages that my grandparents came from? My grandparents Wong came from Jung Seng, Dong Guan, Yu Tien village, Doong Fong branch. My other set of grandparents, the Woos, came from Kwang Tung Province, Toishan, Sai Sarm Bow, Wang Jo Cheung.
I have seen a map of Jung Seng, but unfortunately, I can’t read Chinese. I have a general idea of where the village is, but I would like to get more specific.

Also, do you have maps of these places?: Dun Zi Tao and Se Hou?
